2026 Jeep Recon EPA Rating Lower Than Anticipated

The official Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rating for the 2026 Jeep Recon has been released, indicating an estimated range of less than 230 miles on a full charge. This figure is lower than initial expectations, with the specific EPA estimate for the 2026 Jeep Recon Moab variant standing at 222 miles.

Energy Consumption and Range Comparison

Equipped with a substantial 100-kilowatt-hour battery, the Jeep Recon Moab consumes energy at a rate of 48 kilowatt-hours every 100 miles, translating to an efficiency of 2.08 miles per kilowatt-hour (mi/kWh). This consumption rate places its range below that of comparable electric vehicles. For instance, variants of the Tesla Model Y and Rivian R2 offer greater range, even with smaller battery capacities. The base Tesla Model Y All-Wheel Drive is rated for 294 miles, while the Rivian R2 Performance AWD boasts an estimated 330 miles on a full charge. The Rivian R2 Performance, for comparison, requires 34 kWh/100 miles, achieving an efficiency of 2.94 mi/kWh.

Design and Weight Factors

The aerodynamic profile of the Jeep Recon, designed for off-road capability, may contribute to its energy consumption. Furthermore, weight plays a significant role, with the Recon Moab weighing in at 6,112 pounds. This is considerably heavier than its competitors; the Rivian R2 Performance is approximately 1,000 lbs lighter, and the Tesla Model Y is about 1,600 lbs lighter than the Jeep Recon.

Off-Road Capabilities and Charging

Despite its energy consumption figures, the Jeep Recon offers unique features for an off-road-ready electric SUV. It is the only EV in its class to feature an electronic rear locking differential and is also the only EV available in the U.S. with removable doors, distinguishing it from models like the Wrangler. Built on Stellantis' STLA Large platform, the Jeep Recon supports DC fast charging, enabling it to recharge from 5% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes.

Pricing and Availability

The 2026 Jeep Recon is positioned in the market with a starting price of $68,990, which includes destination charges and the One-Touch Power Top. While the 2026 Jeep Recon Moab is the current iteration, Jeep also offers other models such as the Jeep Wagoneer S and the classic Wrangler, which serves as an electric alternative in spirit.
