Slate Truck EV Details Emerge: Mid-$20,000 Price, Customization Options

Slate Truck EV Set for Late Year Deliveries, Priced in Mid-$20,000s
Slate Automotive is gearing up to commence deliveries of its electric truck, the Slate Truck, later this year. The company has revealed that the vehicle will initially be offered in a basic configuration, with extensive customization options available to customers. Pricing is expected to start in the mid-$20,000 range, a shift from earlier projections of a sub-$20,000 price point.

Extensive Customization and Features
The Slate Truck will roll off the assembly line with body panels in gray plastic, allowing customers to personalize the vehicle through a wide array of wraps. Slate will offer over 100 different wrap options, including 54 basic designs and an additional 50 featuring metallic finishes and unique designs. Slate Automotive CEO Peter Faricy informed the Detroit Free Press that the company will begin printing custom designs for customers starting next year. A key aspect of Slate's strategy is enabling customers to order additional features even after the initial purchase. This approach aims to enhance the ownership experience and allows for significant personalization, potentially transforming the truck into different configurations.
Pricing and Reservation Details
While initially promising a price point under $20,000, Slate now indicates the electric truck will start in the mid-$20,000 range. Reports suggest a starting price of $24,950, not including the destination charge. The automaker plans to make the EV available in all 50 states. The official starting price for the vehicle is scheduled to be unveiled on June 24. On this date, Slate will also begin accepting $300 reservations for the vehicle. Previously, the company had capped $50 reservations at 160,000 units.
Future Outlook
Slate Automotive's commitment to offering an affordable EV is evident in its pricing strategy, despite the upward adjustment. The company's focus on modularity and post-purchase customization, as detailed in discussions with the Detroit Free Press and reported by outlets like The Autopian, positions the Slate Truck as a unique offering in the market. Further details are anticipated following the official price reveal on June 24, with deliveries expected to commence later this year.
